ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

GREAT BEGINNINGS PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Our curriculum supports and respects parents and their lifestyles:
-Parents provide lunch for their child, knowing best what their child should be eating
-We celebrate every day allowing parents to celebrate their own special occasions
-We use the words appropriate and inappropriate so as to allow parents to make value judgements for their children

In addition to the regular program that encompasses literacy, math, social sciences, art, sensory/tactile, large motor, writing, creative drama, and our unit area, we proudly highlight our special programs:

SOCIAL SKILLS
Lesson plans include activities which use vocabulary development as a way of promoting confidence and awareness of feelings. Children are presented with options of appropriate ways to deal with their feelings including but not limited to: learning skills related to listening, following directions, respect for self and others, and self-control.

MUSIC/DANCE
Awareness of body motion and and movement is essential in this program that was developed specifically for GB by a grant made available by an ex-parent.  The program uses the teachings of Carl Orff to discriminate auditory sounds and combine them with movement while developing skills in beat competency.

ART MASTERS
Through the art masters program the children experience hands-on activities to explore the styles and techniques of the world's greatest artists. These art activities give the children time to explore new art ideas and techniques in an  open-ended environment.

MUSIC MASTERS
Music Masters is a program that invites children to explore classic artists and pieces of music through engaging activities and hands-on experiences. Along with this program the staff also teach the children about jazz and Broadway plays and musicals.

MEDITATION
Enhancing calm creativity, communication, and cooperation through soothing meditations. Meditation activities provide the children opportunities to practice and implement observation, relaxation, and self-awareness skills. We also work on developing focus, self-control, and self-confidence.

YOGA
Developing physical awareness, coordination, and self-control skills through basic yoga poses and movements. Through a variety of poses and movements the staff encourage the children to relax, control, and focus their attention, imagination, and bodies.

SIGN LANGUAGE
Children are given the opportunities to learn non-verbal ways to communicate their wants and needs. Learning everyday words and sayings assist them in communicating with other children and staff effectively. The staff encourage the learning of sign language by signing to familiar songs, as well as consistent use of the signs throughout the day.

P.R.I.D.E.

(Promoting Responsibility and Interdependence through Decision making Efforts) is a program that is designed to foster cooperation and problem solving skills in a small, consistent group setting on a daily basis.

WE BELIEVE IN OUR DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM AND IN ORDER FOR THE ALL THE CHILDREN TO BENEFIT, WE HAVE TWO REQUIREMENTS:

1.  CHILDREN NEED TO ARRIVE PRIOR TO 9:30 AM

2.  WE WILL NOT ACCEPT CHILDREN WHO LEAVE OR COME BACK FROM ANOTHER PROGRAM.
